Astri Kimball Van Dyke is Senior Counsel at Google in Washington, DC, developing strategic approaches to engage US foreign policy institutions on Google’s global policy challenges and opportunities. She is lead for Google in DC on Europe, and works with the US government, embassies, global policy-makers, trade associations, non-governmental organizations and other stakeholders on issues of the geopolitics of technology, Internet policy capacity building, and the intersection of innovation and public policy. Astri also did a rotation in Google’s Warsaw office.
Prior to joining Google, Astri served for six years in the US government, including four years at the White House and two at the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC). At the White House she served as Deputy Counsel to Vice President Biden and President Obama’s Deputy Director of Cabinet Affairs. As a member of the senior management team of OPIC, Astri focused on the Power Africa initiative, impact investing, and opening OPIC’s first-ever office in Asia, in Bangkok.
Astri previously practiced law at O’Melveny and Myers, LLP, in the International Dispute Resolution and Strategic Counseling practice groups, and worked at Goldman Sachs in New York.
Astri is a member of the US Advisory Board to French company Open Classrooms, Europe’s largest online education platform. She is a Board member of the DC Public Library Foundation and Advancing Girls’ Education in Africa, a former Term Member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and Co-Founder of the Meridian Center Rising Leaders Council.
Astri is a graduate of Princeton University and New York University School of Law. She is a member of the New York and Washington, DC bars and has published articles with Brookings, the World Economic Forum, and the Aspen Institute.
